Alone at Christmas is probably one of the best holiday traditions you can have – aside from being with your loved ones. A family normally leave their elderly dog alone at home on Christmas Eve when they go to relatives. The elderly dog uses various tricks to prevent the thieves from breaking into the house, when burglars break into the gifts under the tree.
Sometimes though, even if you think you want to spend your holidays alone at Christmas, you still might be tempted to join in the fun. If this happens to you, remember that your loneliness will not go away just because you don’t feel like doing it. Spending alone at Christmas does mean that you will have to be extra careful with your Christmas gifts, because the last thing you want is to open a gift and realize that it’s either not what you wanted or it belongs in another place. Don’t worry though – there are some things you can do to make your alone time more enjoyable.
One thing you can do to make your holidays more alone at Christmas enjoyable is to read related stories. It may sound silly, but read a Christmas story to each other before bed. This may sound strange, but it really works. Christmas is about traditions, so it is really fitting to read a Christmas story to each other before the big day arrives.
After the Christmas story, you can play a game together. Most people who spend their holidays alone have never played a game before. So you will need some games to play. You can start with the most simple one: Pin the nose on the turkey. This is probably the easiest game there is and the best time to try it out is during the middle of the festive season. That is when most people are feeling up to the challenge of trying to remember all of the gifts that came in during Christmas day.
After you’ve gotten your turkey off of its bone, you can decorate it with stuffing or fruits of different colors. That way, when you walk into your home Christmas morning, you can see the fruits and the stuffing. That will make it more real and relatable and therefore, more appreciated by your loved ones.
Another way to enjoy alone time at Christmas is to read books. Maybe you don’t have any books yet this holiday season, but that doesn’t mean you can’t read to your own peace of mind. Reading makes us happy. So if you’re one who doesn’t have any Christmas books, then why not start one? It will be more meaningful to you than spending money on the gift that you want to buy.
Another great way to enjoy holidays alone this December is to just unwind and relax. I don’t mean get drunk and forget about the rest of the world. But remember that it is December and the holidays should be about enjoying the special time of the year with your loved ones. When was the last time you took a moment to just be happy? If you are finding it difficult to relax, maybe now is the time to do it.
Now is the time to think about all of the special memories that you have of Christmas and the ways you used to love spending time alone at Christmas time. Remember that you don’t have to do everything alone this time of the year. Make it something that you look forward to and plan in advance so that you can enjoy it with your family and loved ones during the festive season. You’ll find that being alone will give you a better perspective on Christmas and the time spent together as a family while making it a little more special as well!
